Nowadays, a lot of people migrate to other cities for different purposes. It could be looking for a better work environment, pursuing higher education, or building a new family. And a place to live is one of the basic necessities of human life. For each purpose, they need to find the space to live that supports their daily activities.

There are actually various property listing platform that already exist and known by people in Indonesia. Bellow are some of the example of the most used accomodation platform that I believe have plus minus that can be combined and turned into opportunities.

After working on competitive analysis, to complete user research, several interview was conducted to five participant. For the purpose of this project, five corespondents with different occupation background and age were selected. These people occupation vary from student, doctor, property owner and private employees who is a newlywed couple. Next, I created user personas based on my user research to help me to paint a realistic image of user’s goals, preferences and behaviour.

  • How might we help various group of people finding a matching accomodation?

  • How might we help people looking for the moving services?

  • How might we help those looking for accomodation to have a better visualisation on the listing property from home (online)?

For this study case, from all of the research I did above, I then created the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on my hypothesis responding to the previous given problem statements. This MVP would allow me to quickly test my hypothesis and design ideas on users which will also give me valuable feedback at the begining of design process.

Theoritically, if possible usability testing should be conducted on the existing product before beginning any new design work after the product owner given the PRD around a brand new site or product. This will help to identify areas for opportunities and reduce the amount of assumptions that our team will make to answer the user needs. For this case study, I did some usability testing using the existing product such as Olx, mamikos and travelio as part of my interview which I use it as the competitive analysis and the base of my personas.
If this case is a real product, further usability testing needs to be done upon the creation of wireframe until Hi fidelity design. Basically, a product is made from assumptions regarding what people need, what we can build to solve problems and etc. and that is why even after the products is done, it is really important to keep retesting the product in order to make sure that our product is really answering the problem and to create a fully mature product or platform.

The branding process for a property listing platform challenge start with finding the name. Considering the target user age range for this platform, I decide to use words that is easy to remember and straightforward. Here are some of the name that came a cross during brainstorming process:

  • Tempat Tinggal

  • Cari Rumah

  • Propertiku

On final consideration, I chose to use “ Cari Rumah “ because I feel the name represent the purpose of the user and also easy to remember.

Orange is yellow’s more playful and energetic cousin. It mixes a more invigorating and active emotion associated with red while employing yellow’s mellower tones. Orange is great for brands looking to elicit feelings of vitality and happiness. Finding home can become a start of a new life for some people and home is where the warmth and comfort. These idea seems match with the orang colour meaning.

Common association with orange colour includes:
